LATEST NEWS

Chorlton Cohousing and Manchester Cohousing have joined forces with the intention of promoting an intergenerational cohousing community on Ryebank Fields should development of the land proceed.
A new company: Manchester Intergenerational Cohousing Organisation (MICO) will be formed to take forward this proposal.

A joint venture to build our community

The possibility of building our intentional community on the Ryebank Fields site in conjunction with the multi-generational co-housing group Manchester Cohousing has been the main preoccupation of the Operations group over December and into the New Year. Encouragingly, the underlying aspirations and visions of the two groups seem very compatible, and MCH are enthusiastic and able to contribute professional skills that will be very valuable in the design of larger and more diverse community and the preparation of a joint proposal for developers.

Work has been going on both to identify the issues that will need to be discussed and resolved prior to any detailed joint proposal for the potential developers, and to develop a process for discussion within and between the groups. In terms of the issues, members of the Ops group have been meeting with MCH members to look, for example, at the ways we may want to use common indoor and outdoor spaces, with a view to designing in ‘natural’ places for play, quiet interaction and all the other activities that will make and strengthen our community. In terms of the process of arriving at agreement, we are looking for a facilitator, external to both groups, who can help us structure discussions first within each of the two groups and then as a whole group.

A broad outline of what we are seeking to achieve is set out in an Expectations and Aspirations document that Chorlton CLT has prepared for developers.

Hello!

Welcome to our new website!

We hope you find the website informative, interesting and useful. But please let us know if you have suggestions for further information required, or any other comments. We welcome your feedback.

Over coming months we hope to be adding more information about upcoming developments and meetings, useful articles and reports, or anything we think may be of interest!

Our group meets regularly with full meetings for all members every couple of months (currently on zoom). We also have an operations group which meets weekly and a membership group, so there are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved.
