We are currently interested in developing co-housing on sites in or near Chorlton. If we are to successfully deliver a scheme, we felt that we would need to have a detailed prospectus, with plans and costs, in order to prove our commitment to any interested housing association and/or developer.
Like many cohousing groups we face a challenge in finding land. In order to be ready for any site that may come available we decided to have some plans drawn up. Over the spring/summer of 2020 we worked with Loop Systems architects’ practice to draw up plans based on our design brief. Following a series of meetings and consultative workshops, Loop produced a set of indicative drawings to show what would be possible. The plans were drawn up for a particular site in mind at the time but are adaptable to other locations.
The overall plan contains all the communal facilities we would like – shared outdoor garden space, common house with lounge, dining and kitchen area, guest room, laundry facilities, refuse collection, cycle storage and some car parking. We have an ambition to achieve the Passivhaus standard for energy efficiency, where buildings require little energy for space heating or cooling.
Our architects have also provided plans for individual apartments, ranging from one bed to two bed apartments. Ground floor apartments would have a small garden patio, while upper floor apartments would each have a balcony.
